I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass. My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air, Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents the same, I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin, Hoping to cease not till death. Creeds and schools in abeyance, Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten, I harbor for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard, Nature without check with original energy. The atmosphere is not a perfume, it has no taste of the distillation, it is odorless, It is for my mouth forever, I am in love with it, I will go to the bank by the wood and become undisguised and naked, I am mad for it to be in contact with me. Have you reckon’d a thousand acres much? Have you practis’d so long to learn to read? Have you felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems?

My family holiday and the perfect Christmas 6 January at The hotel we stayed at was called Aqua Blu Sharm and totally catered for children by having multiple pools, and even more water slides — 45 to be exact! Having experienced decades of Field Day excursions, this one takes the cake! What started out as a hot, sunny, humid Friday afternoon setting up our station high atop Chestnut Ridge, ended on Sunday afternoon having operated under conditions of torrential rains, a downward shift of 40 degrees in temperature, one antenna failure, one operator unable to man a station due to illness, a generator choked-out by all the moisture in the air and eventually walking around in a literal cloud!

We had three layers of clothes on and could see our breath on Sunday morning! To say the least, it was a unique set of challenges to overcome. We had a watt generator and 25 gallons of fuel to keep us purring along. With 4 operators we had a good chance to keep all rigs racking up points for the duration. Laptops were ready to log and the plan sounded solid.

The goal was to beat our score from Field Day and thought a good mix of voice and data would do the trick. We extend the awning and set up a table or two to operate from. Field Day was done via battery power and QRP mode. Sunday morning in a cloud! The video below is a typical contest exchange using CW Morse Code and in the ARRL Field Day Contest an exchange of information would be the call sign of the other station, your operating mode how many radios are you running and what sort of power and station are you running , followed by your section of the country.

He just needs to use the keyer paddles to send the other stations call sign during a contest. The pictures below tell the story of our challenges and our solutions.

What’s it like to live in Tower Hamlets

Freelance writer and poet from London; if you would like to read my poetry, please check out my book, ‘Poems on the Page’, available from goo. Published August 23rd A City to Look up to Since retiring, my dad’s friend bought a book of London walks by Time Out ; he aims to complete one a week, and on Dad’s day off, we sometimes join him. This week we travelled up to Tower Hill and London Bridge to do a ‘Block Building’ walk, which consisted of old churches and modern buildings with architecturally intriguing designs.

While the churches turned out to be a bit of a disappointment because you could not go in them, I was entranced by all the fun shapes and fascinating structures of some of London’s latest buildings. Office blocks are no longer bleak monstrosities like the imposing towers of doom from the s; now they are sleek, bright, attractive glass buildings.

Kobe’s second and newer tower, the architecturally appealing Kobe Port Tower, is a must-visit, too. Standing meters tall and notable for its red steel construction, it opened in and, as its name suggests, overlooks Kobe’s bustling port area.

How We Test – The Authors I never realized how many of you were history buffs, or at least wanted to be history buffs. However, to make this as comprehensive as I could, I spent several weeks in deep research looking for everything I could find on the history of this powerful weapon. This is a weapon based on the bow, featuring a horizontal bow-like assembly called a prod, which is then mounted on a stock. It shoots projectiles that are sometimes called bolts or quarrels.

In quite a few cultures, archers were drawn from the common class, but were considered a separate and superior caste because their archery skillset was developed from birth and was impossible to recreate in any other way. The crossbow, on the other hand, was simple, cheap, and physically undemanding enough for even the lowliest conscripted soldier to use. Virtually any nation could enter the field of projectile weaponry using a crossbow, because adequate training on the weapon could be accomplished in a matter of weeks, instead of the years required for a bowman.

First mentions of crossbows The earliest mention of anything related to a crossbow that I could find actually comes from the Bible, in reference to the ballista. A ballista was an ancient missile weapon that launched a large projectile at a distant target, and the design is very similar to that of the handheld crossbow. In II Chronicles The earliest evidence of crossbows in ancient China and neighboring territories points to at least the 6th Century BC, and Sir Joseph Needham states in his Science and Civilisation in China that it is not possible to determine precisely which of the East Asian peoples invented the weapon.

Earliest records A bronze crossbow trigger mechanism and butt plate that were mass-produced in the Warring States period BC. Wikipedia If you look at the linguistic origins of the word, it derives from outside China by their then neighbors, who were often hired as marksmen mercenaries.

Paul Berry After building the product for Huffington Post, and owning the product and engineering groups at AOL after we were acquired, it was clear to me there was a huge gap between what the current CMS offering gave the world and what the world needed. Five years later we are at scale, moving the needle and doing to WordPress what Airbnb did to Craigslist. Social and Centralized WordPress, Drupal, and the custom CMS solutions of the world are all independent, non-connected instances that each need to be updated individually.

There are over 87 million instances of WordPress alone in the world, and each security upgrade, feature update, and every other single thing has to be updated for each site individually. By contrast, RebelMouse is a social, centralized platform built to keep up with the speed of the tech giants. Our updates are pushed out to all of our sites at once and sometimes even multiple times a day with content creation tools integrated directly into social APIs.

We can get clients off of clunky CMSs and into the future in a matter of days. We iterate with the times and tell you what’s changing in the world, how we’ve reacted to it, and how it’s built into the updates you get from the platform.

Nara’s Big Buddha Share: Just 40 minutes east of Osaka – and on the way to Kyoto, – the beautiful old city of Nara has long been at the center of Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Built in the 14th century and often referred to as White Heron Castle – a nickname given by locals for its white exterior walls, which they claim resemble the outspread wings of a white heron – the attraction consists of some 80 buildings, most of them open to the public. The highlight, however, is the castle’s tallest point, the five-story-tall main keep be sure to make the interior climb all the way to the top for the amazing views over the city and surrounding countryside.

When you’re done exploring, spend at least a little time shopping for souvenirs in the many interesting shops at the bottom of the narrow, meandering paths heading up to the castle. Expect to do plenty of walking, so carry water and wear comfortable shoes.
